The Urban Cat Project mourns the loss of Tatiana, the Siberian Tiger (an endangered species) killed by the SFPD after she escaped, killing one teenager and injuring two others.  Tigers and other large cats should not be kept in traditional zoos, in which their average enclosure is 18,000 times smaller than their natural habitat would be.  Traditional zoos such as the San Francisco Zoo should immediately send their 3 remaining Tigers to a sanctuary.  Clearly the SF Zoo does not have the ability to protect visitors from being harmed, nor do they have the space to properly and humanely house large cats.  Anyone who has visited this zoo (and most all traditional zoos) can attest to the boredom and repetitive pacing behaviors exhibited by the large cats so cruelly confined.  Please take a moment to write a letter to the Director of the SF Zoo asking him to immediately send their remaining Tigers (and all large cats) to a Sanctuary.
